Gas prices in Virginia keep dropping as the end of summer comes closer, AAA Tidewater Virginia stated in a press release Monday.
The average price for unleaded gas in Virginia is $2.46 as of Monday, which is two cents cheaper than last week and 17 cents cheaper than last year.
“This brings in some good news for motorists looking to take one more road trip before school begins,” the press release stated.
Gas prices are even cheaper in areas such as Hampton Roads. The gas price average as of Monday is $2.45 in Hampton Roads. That’s two cents cheaper than last week and 19 cents cheaper than last year.
Prices are cheaper as demand dipped slightly on the week, even though overall demand is still “robust” for the summer, according to the press release.
“While gas prices continue to drop, the rate at which they are decreasing has slowed,” said AAA Tidewater Virginia spokeswoman Georjeane Blumling stated in the press release. “On the week, most states saw cheaper pump prices of only a few pennies and motorists can expect this trend to continue into early August.”
Gasbuddy.com on Monday afternoon recorded regular gas prices in Suffolk that ranged from $2.33 to $2.59 per gallon, which represents just a very slight drop compared to the $2.35 to $2.59 range that was recorded on July 24.
