Suffolk native Christy Jordan recently joined the Longwood University women’s basketball staff as the director of basketball operations.

After serving the last four years as the manager of the Old Dominion University women’s basketball team, Jordan will be headed to another Division I program in Longwood. She recently graduated from ODU with a degree in criminal justice.

Jordan said that when Longwood came to ODU last season, she had talked about her future plans, which eventually led to her hiring at Longwood.

“I was just casually talking with the coaches about my future plans. From that point on, we continued to stay in contact, and everything worked out in my favor,” Jordan said.

Second-year Longwood coach, Rebecca Tillett, hired Jordan after being impressed with how she handled Longwood’s visit to ODU. In a statement, Tillett had this to say about Jordan:

“In life, you never know when an impression you make will lead to a job opportunity,” Tillett said. “Christy made a lasting first impression on Tiffany (Sardin, assistant coach) and I when we played at ODU last season. She was the head manager and made sure our trip was smooth from beginning to end. Christy is a go-getter who comes highly recommended. We have multiple colleagues and mentors in common. When I was on the road in July, those same people were asking about Christy. She is already striving to elevate our program daily.”

With her new position will come new challenges and different situations, but Jordan doesn’t see them as challenges but rather as learning experiences. One thing she’s looking forward to is making sure Tillett is informed on the many tasks at hand.

“A fun challenge I think I’ll have is to keep Coach Tillett informed and aware of the many tasks and obligations that we will have,” Jordan said. “I think planning all of our road trips, including travel and lodging for 20-plus people, will definitely be a challenge.”

Jordan is a graduate of King’s Fork High School and was a manager under Coach Maurice Fofana during her time there.
