Crews extinguish house fire

Suffolk Fire and Rescue crews responded to a residential structure fire early Thursday morning in the 3600 block of Fawn Court in the Deerfield neighborhood.

The first unit arrived on scene at 8:14 a.m., according to a city press release. Battalion Chief Barney Howard advised that crews found on arrival light to moderate smoke showing from the front door of the single-story brick residence.

The fire, which was primarily contained to the kitchen, was called under control at 8:25 a.m. There were no reported injuries; however, the residence sustained minor smoke damage.

One adult has been displaced as a result of the fire and is being assisted by family, according to the press release. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
