The Nansemond River girls’ volleyball team got a head start on the intra-city rivalries with a 3-0 win at King’s Fork Thursday.

It was a strong win for the Lady Warriors (2-0), their first against a city opponent this season.

“I’m really proud of how these girls played,” Lady Warriors first-year coach Cassidy Feldt said. “They really came together as a team and played every point like it was their last point of the game. We made mistakes, but they never dwelled on them, and they came back stronger.”

Feldt is the third coach in three seasons for Nansemond River. With only three returning players, she says the team is young, but promising.

Those returners, Alexa Lyons, DeAndra Moore and Claire Parker, all played pivotal roles in the wins over King’s Fork and Churchland, as the Lady Warriors have yet to lose a set through two matches.

“I think a lot of teams are going to underestimate us because we don’t have a lot of experience,” Feldt said. “So, we just want to be able to go out there and show teams who we really are. These girls have been growing a lot, and they are continuing to get better.”

Nansemond River will host Oscar Smith Sep. 10. King’s Fork will look to bounce back Thursday at Deep Creek.
