Johnson earns MEAC rookie honors

Former Nansemond River High School standout Kevin Johnson earned the MEAC Rookie of the Week honors after a big game for Norfolk State University over the weekend.

As a freshman, Johnson’s future looks to be bright for the NSU football program. Last Saturday in a game against Virginia State University, NSU earned a 44-21 win. During that game, Johnson had 82 all-purpose yards for the Spartans and scored his first career touchdown.

With his first college touch, Johnson broke off a 30-plus yard run for a touchdown. He finished the game with 44 rushing yards and added 38 receiving yards.

At Nansemond River, Johnson played on both sides of the ball and was an offensive weapon for the Warriors earning numerous accolades. In his time for the Warriors, Johnson has been an All-District, All-Region and All-State selection. He was also a standout for the track and field team.

Johnson signed to play at NSU in May of this year.
