Runners and walkers can register now for Healthy Suffolk’s fun, family-friendly Peanut Fest 5K Run/Walk and One Mile Fun Walk this October.

The Healthy Suffolk Peanut Fest 5K Run/Walk and One Mile Fun Walk will be held on Oct. 5 at Constant’s Wharf Park and Marina, 100 E. Constance Road.

Check-in will be at 7 a.m., followed by warm-up at 7:30 a.m. All participants will begin their respective routes at 8 a.m., starting with the 5K runners, then the 5K walkers and then the one-milers. This is not a timed race, and no individual times will be provided.

The event is both pet- and stroller-friendly and is meant for the whole spectrum of people that want to be a little more active, according to Daniel Harrell, communications and outreach manager for Healthy Suffolk.

“The purpose of this event is for people to get outside and enjoy the fall weather — which is finally starting to get there — and to get a little more active,” Harrell said. “Our mission is to help all the citizens of Suffolk be more active and live a healthier lifestyle.”

Trophies will be awarded at 9 a.m., and prize drawings will be at 9:15 a.m. Trophies will include the first through third place finishers for 5K male runners and first through third place finishers for 5K female runners, and there will also be pet and youth trophies. Everyone will also receive a finisher medal.

There will be a Sentara Health Fair the morning of the event, and the Girls on the Run organization will also be on site with information for participants.

All participants must check in prior to the event. Packet pick-up will be from noon to 6 p.m. Oct. 4 at Constant’s Wharf Park and Marina. Registration is $35, and T-shirts are available for $12.

The 2019 Suffolk Peanut Fest Parade will also take place downtown on Oct. 5 starting at 10 a.m. This parade is free and open to the public, so runners and walkers can stick around and enjoy the show. Visit suffolkpeanutfest.com/peanut-fest-parade for more information.
