Virginia’s gas prices have been ranked the seventh least expensive for the week, despite the attacks on major Saudi Arabian oil facilities two weeks ago, AAA Tidewater Virginia announced on Tuesday.
According to the Tuesday press release, the average price for regular gas in Virginia is $2.35, which is three cents cheaper than last week, a four-cent difference from last month and 28 cents less than last year.
The national gas price average as of Tuesday is $2.65, the same price as last week and seven cents more expensive than last month, but also 22 cents cheaper compared to one year ago.
Virginia was ranked between Texas and Oklahoma — both at $2.35 — in the 10 least expensive average gas prices nationwide, according to the Tuesday press release, with Louisiana ranked first at $2.30.
As of Tuesday, gas prices are slightly cheaper in Hampton Roads at an average of $2.29 per gallon of gas. That’s three cents less than last week and a 31-cent dip compared to last year.
“Crude oil prices have dropped close to where they were right before the drone attacks on the Saudi oil facilities,” Georjeane Blumling, spokeswoman for AAA Tidewater Virginia, stated in the press release. “This is helping to push gas prices down. Those in Virginia can expect this trend to continue.”
Gasbuddy.com on Wednesday afternoon recorded regular gas prices in Suffolk that ranged from $2.18 to $2.39 per gallon, which represents a sizable drop compared to the $2.33 to $2.59 range that was recorded on Aug. 5.
