Suffolk native Brandon Lowe hit a home run in game three of the MLB American League Divisional Series Monday night.

The Tampa Bay Rays and the Houston Astros are currently in the midst of the ALDS playoff series. In three games played so far, the Astros hold a 2-1 series lead. They had a 2-0 series lead before an impressive game by the Rays kept the Astros from sweeping them Monday.

In the fourth inning of Monday night’s game, Lowe hit a solo home run out of the park to pile onto a 5-1 lead for the Rays. It was his first-ever postseason home run, and it continued an already strong momentum for the Rays at that time. It was a much-needed breakthrough for Lowe, who had been 1-10 from the plate during the series before hitting the homer.

“It felt great to go out there and making something like that happen,” Lowe told the media. “It gives our pitchers a little bit of breathing room. It was a great atmosphere out there, and the crowd was big for us. It was a lot of fun out there.”

Lowe, a former Nansemond River High School standout, was an All-District, All-Region and an All-State performer. He went on to star at the University of Maryland before being drafted.
