The Nansemond River High School girls’ volleyball team defeated Lakeland High School for the second time Tuesday night.

As the Lady Warriors continue their quest for the city championship for the 2019 season, they earned another win. After defeating Lakeland at home in the first meeting, the Lady Warriors went on the road Tuesday night to get a 3-1 win. Coach Cassidy Feldt was proud of the way the group played despite dropping a set.

“They played well and got the job done,” Feldt said. “Despite a low in the third set, they were able to bounce back in the fourth. They were able to come together and focus on the end goal, which was winning the match.”

DeAndra Moore had 19 kills for the Lady Warriors, with Meghan Miniard adding seven aces. The Lady Warriors have King’s Fork one more time this season and have a 3-0 record against Suffolk counterparts. Even with a loss to the Lady Bulldogs, Nansemond River still earns the city title for this season. With a few games left to go in the regular season before the playoffs start, Feldt is happy with where the team is right now.

“I’m very proud of the girls for all of their dedication and hard work at practice,” she said. “They continue to impress me by their teamwork on and off the court.”

Nansemond River is 13-5 on the season. Lakeland is currently 5-9. The Warriors will look to continue their win streak against Great Bridge High School Thursday evening, while Lakeland takes on Western Branch High School.
