Norfolk Southern railroad work to close Holland Road

Daytime closures of Holland Road in the 1300 block near Wiggins Road and Lake Cohoon Road will begin Tuesday as Norfolk Southern replaces railroad ties on a bridge crossing.
In a statement, Norfolk Southern said both main lines will have ties replaced — 56 ties for each track — and it would have flaggers directly under the railroad overhead bridge to alert drivers of the road closure between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. on days when the work will take place, according to a statement from Norfolk Southern.
The project is expected to be finished by the end of the week, though Norfolk Southern told the city it could take between five to seven business days to complete the work.
According to a Norfolk Southern statement, it projects that the daytime closures will take place Tuesday through Thursday, and then also on the following Monday and Tuesday, Oct. 28-29.
In a briefing to City Council, Public Works Director L.J. Hansen said the city had hoped to push the date back to give more notification to the public about the work.
However, electronic message boards were in place Friday morning — one for eastbound Holland Road traffic near Kilby Shores Drive and the other for westbound traffic next to Lake Cohoon Road — alerting drivers to the railroad work and the closing of Holland Road near the railroad bridge.
Holland Road will reopen to traffic in the evenings for the duration of the project.
