Johnnie Ray Barnes, son of Effie Barnes and the late Floyd Barnes Sr., was born Aug. 8, 1963, in Suffolk. He passed the morning of Oct. 25, 2019, in Hampton. He was a graduate of Suffolk High School. He served in the U.S. military, “Army Strong.”

He was preceded in death by his two sons and two brothers. He is survived by his wife, five sons and 12 brothers/sisters; and a host of in-laws, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews cousins and friends.

A homegoing service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 4, 2019, at New Gospel Temple COGIC, 236 Mineral Springs Road, Suffolk, VA 23438. Viewing will take place from 1 to 6 p.m. Friday, Nov. 1, 2019, at Harris Funeral Home, 685 Carolina Road, Suffolk, VA 23434.
