Raymond Ray Nowell died on Thursday, Oct. 24, 2019. He was born on June 5, 1943, in Suffolk to the late Vivian and Wilbur Nowell.

He is predeceased by his parents and brothers, Wilbur “Shineboy” and John Curtis Nowell.

He is survived by his daughters, Lisa McKinney (Ed), of Windsor, Kim Smullen (Steve), of Suffolk, and Jennifer Allen (Brad), of Newport News; seven grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild; his loving sister, Joan N. Grizzard (Charles), of Danville; nieces, Joni Holland (Stan), of Harrisonburg, Laurie Grizzard, of Zephyrlls, Fla., Kelly Modlin (Ray), of Suffolk, and Renee Lester (John), of Danville; and other family members that loved him.

A graveside service will be conducted by the Rev. James Jones at 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 1, 2019 at Cedar Hill Cemetery. Condolences may be registered at RWBakerFH.com.
