The 16th annual C.E.&H. Ruritan Club Oyster Roast will return to Eclipse on Nov. 9, with live music and all-you-can-eat seafood.

The oyster roast will be held from 1 to 5 p.m. Nov. 9 at C.E.&H. Ruritan Hall, 8881 Eclipse Drive. The band “the Baddadz” will perform as attendees enjoy good fellowship with delicious, roasted oysters and libations.

“Ticket sales have been pretty brisk so far,” club President Mike Mullen said. “People are waiting to see what the weather’s going to be like. We’ve been really blessed with good weather. We usually catch a nice, crisp day.”

Mullen said the oyster roast was a club tradition for many years before it was discontinued for a while, and then brought back 16 years ago.

“Way before my time, the elder statesmen of the club, they used to do this years and years ago,” he said. “And we decided to bring it back. Over time it’s grown and grown, and it’s really become one of our biggest events.”

Mullen said between 500 and 650 people usually turn out for the all-you-can-eat seafood feast: homemade clam chowder, fried oysters or fried oyster fritters as appetizers, and then the main event, roasted oysters.

Mullen said proceeds from the event and the club’s other fundraisers go toward helping people in need in the community as well as upkeep on its building, which is a historical school building.

“Every bit of the money we make goes right back to the community in some shape or form, and it also helps with the upkeep of our building,” he said. “That building has some age. It needs a lot of tender loving care from time to time.”

Tickets are $30 in advance and $35 at the door. Tickets are available at Market on Route 17 near Eclipse, Saunders Supply in Chuckatuck and at Fatboy’s Grill and Steamshack in Carrollton.

“Please come out and enjoy the event,” Mullen said.
