The Nansemond River High School cheer team took home the Class 5 Region A title last weekend.
The Lady Warriors cheerleaders turned in a big performance last weekend at the regional competition meet, earning Nansemond River its first regional cheer title after finishing as a runner-up last year. It was a big accomplishment for the group led by coaches Amanda Lyons and Lindsey Tibbitt.
“For my assistant coach Lindsey and I, this was all such an incredible feeling,” Lyons said. “It was really indescribable. In that moment, we were all overcome with emotion, because our goal was never to win, we just wanted the girls to go out there and have fun. But in the midst of that fun, they were recognized for all of their hard work with a victory. That makes us so proud.”
Nansemond River will look to add another trophy to its case when they compete in the Class 5 state cheer competition this Saturday at the Virginia Commonwealth University Siegel Center. The Lady Warriors are just looking forward to going out and putting their best foot forward.
“We are just looking forward to having fun and seeing the team perform one more time,” Lyons said. “We know the girls will give it their all one more time.”
