Suffolk marching bands honored

The marching bands at all three Suffolk public high schools have brought home multiple awards from recent competitions.

 

The Lakeland High School Marching “Quiet Storm” Band participated in the King’s Fork High School Kennel Classic on Nov. 2.

LHS received the following awards for Class AA:

  • 3rd place flags
  • 2nd place band
  • 2nd place band music
  • 1st place majorettes
  • 1st place dancers
  • 1st place percussion
  • 1st place band marching and maneuvering
  • 1st place drum major

Alvin Wilson is the band director.

 

The Nansemond River High School Magnificent Marching Warriors also participated in the King’s Fork High School Kennel Classic and brought home the following awards in Class AAAA:

  • 1st Place Percussion
  • 1st Place Drum Major
  • 2nd Place Overall Band
  • 2nd Place Marching Maneuvering, and General Effect
  • 2nd Place Music

They also received 2nd place for majorettes in the open class.

Ed Woodis is the band director, and Jon’tell Woodley is the assistant band director.

 

The Lakeland High School Marching “Quiet Storm” Band participated in the Nansemond River High School Warrior Classic Band Day on Nov. 9.

The band received the following awards in Class A:

  • 1st place flags
  • 1st place majorettes
  • 1st place dancers
  • 1st place drum major
  • 1st place percussion
  • 1st place band
  • They also earned the overall 3rd place grand trophy.

 

The King’s Fork High School Mighty Marching Bulldogs Band also participated in the Nansemond River High School Warrior Classic Band Day on Nov. 9.

The band received the following awards for Class AAA:

  • 3rd place flags
  • 1st place majorettes
  • 1st place dancers
  • 1st place drum major
  • 1st place percussion
  • 1st place band
  • They also received the overall grand champion trophy.

Bernard Bradley is the director of bands.

 

The King’s Fork High School Marching Band also recently performed at the Gotham City Classic and won the following in the Class AAAA:

  • 3rd Place Flags
  • 1st Place Drumline
  • 1st Place Dance (Top score of the day)
  • 1st Place Drum Major
  • 1st Place Percussion
  • 1st Place Marching & Maneuvering (top score of the day)
  • 1st Place General Effect (tied for top score of the day)
  • 1st Place Music
  • 3rd Place Overall Band of the day
  • 3rd Place Open Class Majorettes
