The Bulldogs and Warriors are officially in the playoffs after Virginia High School League released the first-round playoff pairings.
Nansemond River High School officially earned the No. 6 seed in the Class 5A region, while King’s Fork High School earned the No. 6 seed in the Class 4A region.
Nansemond River will be matched up with Indian River High School for the second time this season. The Warriors are coming off of a strong win against Deep Creek High School and are coming into the playoffs with the right amount of momentum they will need for the reigning Class 5A region runner-up and the 2018 Southeastern District champions.
“The kids are taking up the coaching, and we feel good about where we are right now,” Coach Justin Conyers said. “We didn’t play to our full potential the last time we played them. Hopefully this time around we get a chance to redeem ourselves.”
King’s Fork will go on the road to take on Warhill High School. Coach Kermit Buggs will be in his first postseason with the Bulldogs and feels like the team will be ready to compete at a high level come Friday night.
“We’re going to have to support ourselves and take care of the things we can control,” Buggs said. “We have to focus on us and how we execute things, and then I think we will be fine. We have to keep working and have a strong week of practice this week.”
King’s Fork will go to Warhill at 7 p.m. Friday, while Nansemond River will head to Indian River, also at 7 p.m. Friday.
