The Lakeland High School field hockey season ended Tuesday afternoon with a loss to James Monroe High School.
The Lady Cavs finish their season in the Class 3 state quarterfinals for the second consecutive year. They took a shutout loss to James Monroe, which has claimed the Class 3 state championship the last couple of years. Lakeland had a tough road draw but despite a tough loss had another solid season.
Lakeland earned a playoff win by shutting out Hopewell High School in the region quarterfinals game. From there, Lakeland took a loss to Poquoson High School team in the semifinals but was able to qualify for the state tournament.
Throughout the season, the Lady Cavs experienced a couple of different injuries on top of being a young team. Coach Jamee Albright felt good about what the team was able to overcome and fight through and at points in the regular season when the Lady Cavs faced tough opponents, she kept faith in her group.
With this young Lady Cavs team getting the experience they needed this season, it will be good for them going forward in the future. Lakeland will likely return a strong core next year and will look to reach the state tournament for a third consecutive year.
