The King’s Fork High School wrestling team earned a district win over Indian River High School Wednesday evening.

The Bulldogs’ wrestling team hit a milestone Wednesday night. Outside of wins against city rival Lakeland High School, the Bulldogs’ win over Indian River was their first regular season win over a district opponent in school history. KF wrestled a strong match that should give them more confidence going into the other matches on their schedule before the holiday break.

“It was a pretty big accomplishment for us having beat somebody else in the district besides Lakeland,” Coach Jason Dunaway said. “We had a lot of guys step up. We are a young program and for us to pick up that kind of big win and for these guys to embrace the challenge is great.”

Jadon Pierre and Kavase’ Towns both had strong wins for the Bulldogs. Dunaway also talked about the atmosphere and gave credit to the King’s Fork community giving the Bulldogs the push they needed.

“I think it opened some eyes, like ‘Hey, you’re not going to get an easy win against King’s Fork anymore.’ It was real big for us.”

King’s Fork looks to head into the break on a high note with a couple more matches next week, including the Toys for Tots tournament.
