Suffolk Public Schools had eight players selected to the Southeastern District teams for this season.

SPS had another strong year of field hockey being represented well on the All-District teams. Between Lakeland High School and Nansemond River High School, there were eight selections. Nansemond River led the way with six selections, with four being on the first team.

Halle Fago headlined the first team selections at forward. Fago was among the top scorers in South Hampton Roads and once again led the Lady Warriors in scoring for the second consecutive year. Nyah McNeal was also a first team All-District selection at forward. Abby Fischer led the way at midfield, being selected first team, while Madie Baker was a first team selection as a defender.

“It feels amazing to be recognized, but I couldn’t have done it without my teammates,” Fago said. “I think with all the recognition we received, it showed us how much we grew as a team this year and that we are continuing to get better as a whole.”

Alex Leman and Alivia Miller were second team All-District selections, while Joy Maus was an honorable mention. Nansemond River finished the season with an 11-5 record.

Lakeland had two second team All-District selections, with Alexa Snyder being selected at midfield and Aryn Kinsey being selected as a defender. With a young team this season, Lakeland was able to finish strong in the district before heading to regional play, winning a game there and ultimately advancing to the state tournament.

“I was surprised and excited to hear I was selected All-District,” Snyder said. “That has been something I had wanted to earn my whole high school career. As a team, I think we did a great job this year for having a new group of girls that hadn’t played together. We have a young team, and a lot of girls stepped up when they needed to.”

Many of the players recognized will return next season.
