Lakeland has made a complete turnaround from the start they had last season, winning games by impressively high margins this year. Coach Daryl Rountree had preached all offseason about the Lady Cavs taking the next step. The start the Lady Cavs has gotten off to so far has even surprised Rountree a bit, but he knew with some of the experiences the Lady Cavs went through last year, it would all pay off.

Lakeland is averaging 65.2 points a game so far this season.

“We are playing well,” Rountree said. “I am proud of them and the way they are performing right now. I am a bit surprised that they have come out as strong so early, but I am pleasantly surprised.”

Rountree knows that they can’t be satisfied simply because they have been playing well through the early portion of the season. They want to continue to keep striving and being able to stack wins against the bigger schools in the district and the non-conference opponents they will play this season.

“We keep stressing the basics,” Rountree said. “We have made it a point to focus on fundamentals. Even though we are playing well, we want to use our fundamentals to make sure we can continue to build on this early success we have had.”
