Nichols earns honors

Former King’s Fork High School standout Cydney Nichols earned the USA South Athlete of the Week honor for North Carolina Wesleyan College.

The multi-sport star had a good week on the basketball court for her team, which lead to her ultimately being named the USA South Conference Athlete of the Week.

Nichols had 20 points off of the bench in a NCWC victory over Averett University. She also added three rebounds and three steals. She has helped NCWC women’s basketball team get off to one of their best starts in 10 years, as they are currently 7-2. As a junior this season, Nichols is averaging 11.2 points per game in roughly 21 minutes per game.

Nichols is also a standout on the soccer field for NCWC.

At King’s Fork, she played multiple sports but was known for her soccer skills and basketball skills. Nichols holds the current record at King’s Fork for most goals scored and helped KFHS to its first ever state tournament berth back in 2017. On the court, Nichols has been All-Conference, All-Region and All-State for the Lady Bulldogs. She was a part of the Lady Bulldogs team during the 2016-2017 season that earned their first state title bid.
