Nansemond River High School wrestlers went to Maryland to compete in another out-of-state tournament and had some notable finishes.

Nansemond River traveled out of state for the last time this season as they went up to Ocean City and competed in the War on the Shore. They placed fourth as a team and had some strong individual finishes.

Evan Rawls had the only first-place finish for the Warriors, while his brother Owen finished second in his weight class of 106. Madsen Jean and Braxton Lewis both had third-place finishes, while Andrew McDougal, Matthew Henson and Matt Prevatte had fourth-place finishes.

“We wrestled well,” Coach Tripp Seed said. “The team continues to wrestle well and get better as we make our way toward the postseason.”

Nansemond River will have a couple more regular-season matches before getting ready for the postseason. Now, it’s all about the Warriors staying healthy.

“As we get down the stretch, we just want to finish our holds cleaner,” Seed said. “We want to continue to improve on dictating our matches. We want to continue to stay healthy and avoid injury.”
