Thanks for generosity

Another campaign for the Suffolk Cheer Fund is over, and you helped make it a success.
We made our goal of $40,000 this year, even after a sluggish start. And more importantly, nearly 2,000 children right here in Suffolk were able to find toys under the tree on Christmas Day thanks to the success of the Cheer Fund this year.
On page 11 of today’s print edition, you can see a full-page ad thanking all of those who donated. We could not be more grateful for each and every one of the names on that list and the altruism, compassion and generosity that made their gift possible.
If you’ve never heard of the Cheer Fund, it is a project of the Suffolk News-Herald to raise money to be used to purchase toys for children in Suffolk who are less fortunate. We partner with the Suffolk Corps of the Salvation Army, which purchases the toys and distributes them. Many other groups and organizations also participate in this project, including Suffolk Social Services and more.
The Cheer Fund is an easy way to make sure your hard-earned money goes directly, 100 percent to putting toys — and a little Christmas cheer — in the hands of children right here in Suffolk. Except for a small required fee to register each year with the State Corporation Commission, not a single dollar of your donation ever goes to anything other than buying toys for Suffolk children. It is the true Suffolk charity.
No donation is too big or too small. To donate to the Cheer Fund, send a check to P.O. Box 1220, Suffolk, VA 23439 or bring it to the newspaper’s office, 130 S. Saratoga St., from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
We will list your donation in the newspaper, but it can be marked “anonymous” if you like. Donations may be made in honor of or in memory of someone. If you bring the check to our office, we’ll even take your picture as you hand it to one of our staff.
If you’d like to give online, there is a link available on the Suffolk Cheer Fund’s Facebook page.
