Lady Warriors to host Pink Game

The Nansemond River High School girls’ basketball team will have its Pink Game Friday night.

The Lady Warriors will recognize breast cancer awareness in their home matchup against Great Bridge High School on Friday. During the game, Nansemond River will honor six breast cancer survivors and will be raising money for breast cancer awareness.

Lady Warriors Coach R. Calvin Mason wants to continue to show his players through basketball that there are things bigger than basketball in life. He has always maintained a high-character program since he has been at Nansemond River, always having he and his team do things within the community. Despite a difficult season this year, the Lady Warriors still deem it important to help out in the community any way they can. They have also done things like reading to kindergarten students this season.

“We’ve had a difficult season, but it hasn’t stopped us from wanting to be a part of the community,” Mason said. “We still have been working hard and being positive role models for the kids behind them. I want the program to stand for something, and we are always pushing. I want people to see the team in a different light than just basketball players. I want people to see that they are staples in their communities as well.”

Nansemond River will face Great Bridge at home at 7 p.m. Friday.
