Two separate accidents on Route 58 eastbound near the landfill backed up traffic on Thursday morning.
Suffolk Police and Suffolk Fire & Rescue responded to the crashes, which were reported at 7 and 7:15 a.m. The first involved a passenger vehicle that left the roadway and hit a guardrail, landing in the water-filled ditch in the center median. Two occupants were treated for minor injuries.
The second accident was a rear-end collision involving two vehicles in the same area. No injuries were reported in that crash.
One lane of travel was open while first responders cleared the scene and awaited tow trucks. The cause of the accidents remains under investigation.
