The King’s Fork High School boys’ basketball team has once again laid claim to the city title with a win over Lakeland High School Friday.

With the 68-63 win over Lakeland at home, the Bulldogs took home another city title under Coach Rick Hite. The second meeting of the two teams had no shortage of the same excitement from the first matchup.

Once again, both teams spent the night going back and forth, with no team holding a major lead over the other. Luciano Hamlin and Keimari Artis put on a show for Lakeland in the first quarter, as they combined for more than 15 points in the first quarter. Lakeland went into the second quarter with a 17-14 lead over King’s Fork.

In the second quarter, King’s Fork was able to keep the game close, remaining the poised team they have always been, whether in wins and losses. George Beale and Jayden Epps got it going in the second quarter for the Bulldogs, but Lakeland was able to maintain a 37-35 lead at the half.

In the second half, Lakeland continued fighting hard to keep the Bulldogs from taking and holding the lead. Artis spent the third quarter continuing to pour it on for the Cavs, as Lakeland was able to hold a two-point lead after three quarters of play. The Bulldogs continued their fight in the fourth quarter and was able to claw the lead away from Lakeland and eventually go on to close out the game.

With the win, King’s Fork finishes 5-0 against Suffolk foes this season, defeating both Nansemond River High and Lakeland last week.

Artis led all scorers with 30 points last Friday, while Epps led with 23 points for the Bulldogs. Hamlin added 12 for Lakeland. King’s Fork had four players in double figures, with Bravion Campbell scoring 15, Beale adding 13 and Tyler Chatman posting 10.
