The King’s Fork High School wrestling team will send three wrestlers to states.

The Bulldogs recently competed in the Class 4A region tournament and had some notable finishes. There were multiple top five finishes for the Bulldogs, and they had a runner-up. Gabriel Wyatt was the top finisher for the Bulldogs, as he will wrestle in the state tournament after finishing runner-up at 152.

His brother Alijah Wyatt finished fourth, and Jalen McCleary finished fourth as well. Both will be joining the Class 4 state tournament. Out of the 10 wrestlers that competed in the region tournament, eight will return for next season.

“We have a very young team with just two seniors who are competing this year,” Coach Charlie Misuna said. “A lot of the guys we had in the region tournament are first-year wrestlers, and considering that, I felt like we wrestled well.”

The Bulldogs believe the future is bright regardless of what happens at the state tournament. With preparation this week being very important, the Bulldogs will elect to keep things the way they have up to this point rather than tweaking a lot of things. They want to correct the wrongs from the regional tournament, but the preparation will likely stay the same.

“It’s about sticking to the formula and trusting the process,” Misuna said. “What it’s about now is keying in on the mistakes we have made and eliminating those. Everybody has beat someone to make it to the state tournament, but everybody there is 0-0 on that day. We just want to work hard and be able to come away with a state title. But we have to get to work and make sure we are ready to go.”

The Class 4 state tournament will be held in Leesburg.
