If you’re not already planning on it, your best bet for a little bit of edutainment this fine Leap Day weekend is to join the buzzing hive of spectators at the Suffolk Education Foundation’s fourth annual spelling bee.
You’ll see some great costumes, you’ll learn some new words, you’ll laugh and you’ll probably see somebody crying when they lose.
We just hope it’s not the Suffolk News-Herald team left crying this year, as we lost our 2018 championship trophy by being the runners-up last year.
At any rate, we think this is one of the coolest events of the year, and we hope everyone will come out.
Not only is this a delightful event, but it supports a great cause. The Suffolk Education Foundation supports students and teachers in Suffolk Public Schools with scholarships, classroom grants, professional development opportunities and more.
Along with its annual gala supporting arts in the schools, which is coming up in April, this is one of the largest fundraisers for the Suffolk Education Foundation, and it has been steadily growing over the years.
The Grown-Up Spelling Bee takes place starting at 2 p.m. Saturday at King’s Fork High School, 351 Kings Fork Road. Admission is $5. We hope you’ll come join us!
