The King’s Fork High School girls’ basketball team earned a 37-30 win over Warhill High School to advance in the regional tournament.

The Lady Bulldogs open the tournament upsetting the No. 3 seed with a seven-point win Tuesday night at York High School. It was a strong win for the young Lady Bulldogs, as Warhill was the co-district champion in the Bay Rivers District.

Arlisha Boston and Niyah Gaston did the most damage against Warhill, adding 14 points each. Ashlee Robertson added four, while Quadaia Coles added five.

Heading into the tournament the Lady Bulldogs knew they had the makings of being a dangerous team as No. 6 seed, and they will be looking for more upsets. Before the region playoffs started, Coach Maurice Fofana said he and his team were intrigued by the idea of being underdogs throughout the tournament, and so far the Lady Bulldogs have been able to show that they are a dangerous team.

Next for the Lady Bulldogs will be a matchup against Grafton High School, the No. 2 seed, at 6 p.m. Thursday at Hampton High School, with a shot at the regional championship game and a state tournament berth.
