On Monday evening, Feb. 24, 2020, at 6:39 p.m., God called his angel home. Margie Marie (Spruell) Thomas was born Aug. 9, 1945, to Annie Mae Wright and Ed Louise Spruell Sr. in Branchville.
Margie was a faithful member of Little Bethel Baptist Church for more than 50 years. She served as an usher, nurses aid, the Kitchen Committee, sang in the church choir and was a Den Mother for Pack 305. She worked for Suffolk Public Schools and retired in 2010 after 36 years as a cafeteria manager. Even after retirement, she continued to work as a substitute manager until her health began to decline.
Margie’s passion was cooking, especially baking cakes and rice pudding. She was a beloved mother, sister, grandmother and friend. She was preceded in death by her parents, Annie Mae Wright and Ed Louise Spruell; her son, Earl Thomas; brothers, Roy Lee, Eddie and Bobby; and sister, Georgia Mae.
She leaves to cherish her memory three children, Melvin Thomas, of Nashville, Tenn., Judy Kelley (Robert), of Nashville, Tenn., Naomi Thomas-Dimery, of Charlotte, N.C.; three sisters, Juanita, Clarice and Lisa (John); four brothers, Larry, Donell, Alfonzo (Tracy) and Sidney (Gwen); six grandchildren, Porscha, December, Winter, Trey, Trevon (TJ) and Darrick (DJ); five great-grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, godchildren and friends.
A celebration of life service will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, March 1, 2020, at Little Bethel Baptist Church, 6533 Everets Road (Chuckatuck Station), Suffolk. Viewing will take place from 4 to 7 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 29, 2020, at Shivers Funeral Chapel. Margie is in the loving and professional care of Shivers Funeral Chapel.
