Suffolk players, coach recognized for All-District

After a strong year of girls’ basketball, the city of Suffolk had six players recognized on All-District teams, as well as the Coach of the Year.

Suffolk Public Schools finished the regular season with two of the top three teams in the district. King’s Fork High School were co-champions of the Southeastern District with an 8-1 record. Lakeland High School finished in the third place with a 7-2 record in the district.

Maurice Fofana was recognized as Coach of the Year, having led the Bulldogs to their success. Additionally, Niyah Gaston was the only first team selection while Quadaia Coles, Ashlee Robertson and Arlisha Boston were second team All-District selections. Ashawnti Williams was honorable mention for the All-District teams for King’s Fork.

Lakeland had two players recognized, with Kemonye Canady being selected first team All-District and Jaelyn Brown being selected second team. Jamauri Demiel, Kianna Gray and Nyeisha Savage were all honorable mentions.

Both the Lady Bulldogs and Lady Cavs earned region bids this season. Both teams have very young teams and will likely be among the top teams in the district next season well.
