The Suffolk Art Gallery at 118 Bosley Ave. will hold the opening awards reception for the 36th Annual Juried Photography Exhibit from 4 to 6 p.m. Saturday.

Held by the Suffolk Art Gallery, this is the largest and longest-running juried exhibition of photographic works in Hampton Roads, according to the city press release. The opening awards reception will celebrate the many photographers on display in the exhibit and congratulate the winning artists.

There were 220 works were entered into the exhibit for consideration, from across Virginia and from surrounding states, and 71 of them were selected for the exhibit, said Angela Reavis, cultural arts coordinator for Suffolk Parks and Recreation.

This year’s exhibit was juried by North Carolina-based instructor and award-winning photographer Will Willner. According to Reavis, these works range from portraiture to landscapes, abstract images and even composite-style photography.

Awards will be announced at 5 p.m. Saturday evening and will range from $100 Honorable Mentions to $500 for Best in Show.

The 36th Annual Juried Photography Exhibit will be on display from Saturday through April 17. All receptions and exhibits at the Suffolk Art Gallery are free and open to the public. Visitors of all ages are welcome and encouraged to attend.

The Suffolk Art Gallery is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays and 1 to 5 p.m. Sundays.
