The Sharon Picot and Chip Picot Memorial Student Scholarship will offer up to $3,925 in scholarship funds for students to pursue their interest in the visual, performing or literary arts. They may use their scholarship funding for things such as taking classes or lessons, purchasing materials, instruments or equipment, or attending workshops or conferences.

Applications for the Sharon Picot and Chip Picot Memorial Student Scholarship must include a completed application form, a brief essay written by the student, and a recommendation from a teacher, guidance counselor or other knowledgeable person.

The John R. Taylor Jr. Memorial Student Scholarship for Visual Arts will offer up to $400 in scholarship funds for students to pursue their interest in the visual arts. They may use their scholarship funding for taking classes or lessons or the purchase of materials or equipment.

Applications for the John R. Taylor Memorial Student Scholarship for Visual Arts must include a completed application form, brief essay written by the student, two images of student work no smaller than 5×7, and a recommendation from a teacher, guidance counselor or other knowledgeable person.

Applications for both scholarships are available from Suffolk school guidance offices and arts teachers. They are also available by calling the Suffolk Art League office at 925-0448 or visiting www.suffolkartleague.com. The Suffolk Art Gallery is currently closed, so those who plan to drop off applications at the gallery, 118 Bosley Ave., will need to call so a staff member can come out and get the application.

To contribute to either fund, make a check payable to either the Sharon Picot and Chip Picot Memorial Student Scholarship or the John R. Taylor Memorial Student Scholarship for Visual Arts and mail it to Suffolk Art League, P.O. Box 1086, Suffolk, VA 23439.
