The Western Tidewater Health District saw a rise of 29 cases in Thursday morning’s report by the Virginia Department of Health, topping 400 total for the first time.
The district has 413 cases, with 169 in Suffolk, 125 in Southampton County, 99 in Isle of Wight County and 20 in Franklin.
It mirrored a steep increase across the state from Wednesday to Thursday, with 885 new cases for a cumulative total of 15,846.
Fifteen people in the district have died of the disease — 12 in Suffolk, two in Isle of Wight County and one in Southampton County. About 46 people in the district are hospitalized.
Statewide, there are 967 COVID-19 patients hospitalized, and 583 hospitalized and awaiting test results, according to the Virginia Hospital and Healthcare Association. The VHHA also reported 2,104 patients with confirmed COVID-19 have been hospitalized and then discharged.
