Theodore Columbus Robinson transitioned from this life on Tuesday May 12, 2020, at his residence. He was born Feb. 24, 1935, to the late Horace and Edith Robinson. Theodore was a native of Isle of Wight County.
He was preceded in death, along with his parents, by three brothers, Clarence, Horace and Marvin Robinson; three sisters, Vernie Newsome, Lillie Robinson and Eunice Brown.
Theodore joined in holy matrimony to Mattie Lee Copeland on April 19, 1958. He was a lifelong member of the Little Bethel Baptist Church. He was a faithful, dedicated worker servant of God. He served and taught Sunday School for more than 40 years. He also served on the Deacon Board, Finance Committee, Second Senior Choir, Male Chorus and King’s Men. He was also a member of the Oakland Civic League and worked more than 15 years for the local and presidential polls. He attended Isle of Wight County Schools in Smithfield. He retired from Gwaltney of Smithfield after 42 years.
He leaves to cherish his memory, two sons Seth Copeland, of Suffolk, and Travis Robinson (Wendy), of Portsmouth; two daughters, LaBrita Dews (John), of Fort Worth, Texas, Valana Gholston (Alvin), of Suffolk; three grandchildren, Travis Robinson Jr., of Portsmouth, Shonda Dews, of Fort Worth, Texas, Christopher Whitaker, of Portsmouth; eight great-grandchildren, Lezra Dews, Kamden Mcgilveary, of Fort Worth, Texas, Merina Evile, Lagimaina While, Christopher Whitaker Jr., Nia Whitaker, Cameron Whitaker, Candace Whitaker; three sisters, Elnora Whitley, Jonie Davis and Hortense Harrell; one brother, William Robinson (Lillian); one sister-in-law, Katherine Robinson, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
A drive-in celebration of life service will be held at noon Wednesday, May 20, 2020, at Shivers Funeral Chapel, Smithfield. Viewing took place from 4 to 6 p.m. Tuesday, May 19, 2020, also at the chapel. If you cannot attend, you can watch the service on Facebook on the Shivers Funeral Chapel page.
