Suffolk Sheriff E.C. Harris said Monday evening that Suffolk’s Juvenile & Domestic Relations and General District courts both will be closed through Thursday for deep cleaning. They will reopen Friday.
Harris said he was notified that some lawyers that have been in those courts recently have been diagnosed with COVID-19. ServPro was at the courthouse during the day Monday to clean the J&DR court, and General District Court was expected to be done Monday evening.
J&DR Court was closed all day Monday. However, cases were heard in General District Court Monday morning. Face masks are required to enter the courthouse, and everyone is being asked about whether they have symptoms consistent with COVID-19.
Harris said the Circuit Court had been closed a couple of weeks ago after someone that had been there was diagnosed.
“This is going to be an ongoing thing,” he said. “This is something that’s going to happen over and over and over again.”
Harris said nobody in the Sheriff’s Office has yet been diagnosed. Employees in many different areas of the courthouse have been sent for testing, he said.
“We talk to each other repeatedly and make sure nobody’s sick,” he said.
