The Virginia Department of Transportation plans to close the southbound and northbound lanes of Interstate 664’s Monitor-Merrimac Memorial Bridge-Tunnel for paving in one direction at a time throughout two weekends, starting this Friday.
Crews will close all southbound lanes of I-664 MMMBT, towards Suffolk, as early as 9 p.m. Oct. 2. The lanes are scheduled to reopen by 5 a.m. on Oct. 5. During this time, a right lane closure will also be in place on I-664 north, towards Newport News, at the MMMBT.
These scheduled maintenance activities are weather-dependent. Drivers should use the Route 17 James River Bridge or the I-64 Hampton Roads Bridge-Tunnel as alternate routes, VDOT said.
Crews will have signs directing drivers to the detours.
