Links partner for free swim lessons
Eighteen children spent four weeks increasing their confidence and becoming less fearful of being in water thanks to the Links.
The “Swim Like A Fish” Program resumed after the COVID-19 pandemic caused a halt in early March. This is the third year that lessons have been offered, and 144 children have been through the program.
The Suffolk (VA) Chapter of the Links, Inc. received a grant from Suffolk Foundation and in partnership with the Suffolk Family YMCA was able to sponsor this necessary program.
Many of our youth cannot swim because of limited to no access to pools. Therefore, particularly African American youth drown at a higher rate than others.
All children received a certificate of completion, a medal and a gift bag.
