Vernon Marvin Harvey left this world peacefully all too soon on Nov. 22, 2020, at Sentara Obici Hospital in Suffolk. Vernon was born in Nansemond County to the late James Lee and Beulah Harvey II on March 6, 1946. He attended Nansemond County Schools, worked for 42 years with the City of Suffolk Public Works Department and was a member of Tabernacle Christian Church.
He was preceded in death by his siblings Carlton Harvey, Mary E. Harvey, Dorothy Harvey and Ajane Harvey. Although he has departed this phase of his life, he is present with the Lord and will live in the lives of his family and friends.
Vernon leaves to celebrate and cherish his memory his loving and devoted wife of 51 years, Shirley P. Harvey; one loyal daughter, Sherry Jones (Lemuel); three grandsons, LaMar Jones, LaMont Jones and Lemuel Jones Jr.; one sister, Beulah H. Phillips, all of Suffolk; and one sister-in-law, Jean Meeks of Tarboro, N.C.; a very devoted nephew, Benny Harvey. He also leaves a host of aunts, uncles, nephews, nieces, cousins and close friends. A graveside celebration of life service will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 28, at Holly Lawn Cemetery. Harris Funeral Home has been entrusted with the home going service.
