A woman injured in a residential structure fire on Thursday afternoon is home recovering.
The fire in the 1400 block of Wilroy Road was reported at 2:03 p.m. At 2:09, the first crews arrived to find smoke showing from the home. Suffolk Fire & Rescue personnel located the woman inside the residence and rescued her. She was taken to an area hospital with critical injuries but was released from the hospital Thursday evening.
The fire was marked under control at 2:22 p.m.
Suffolk Police assisted with traffic control, as Wilroy Road was closed to traffic during the operations. It reopened shortly before 3 p.m.
The Fire Marshal’s Office determined the cause of the fire to be carelessly discarded smoking materials.
