A Suffolk woman died in a crash on Joyners Bridge Road at Parsons Road in Isle of Wight County.

The crash happened about 5 p.m. Saturday, according to the Virginia State Police. The driver of a 1997 Chevrolet Trailblazer, Jonathan Putman Jr., was traveling in the eastbound lanes of Joyners Bridge Road when he traveled off the paved portion of the road, overcorrected, and ran off the roadway. The vehicle struck several trees before overturning.

The passenger, Jessica Lynn Deziel, 32, of the 5400 block of Old Myrtle Road, Suffolk, died at the scene from her injuries, the Virginia State Police stated. Putman was transported to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital with injuries not considered life-threatening.

Deziel was wearing her safety belt at the time of the accident. Speed and alcohol do not appear to be factors, State Police said.
