Viola “Joyce” Carbone, 79, passed away on Saturday, April 10, 2021. She was born on Aug. 26, 1941, in Suffolk, to the late Joseph Henry Ellis Sr. and Lettie Piland Ellis.
Joyce worked as a supply clerk at Tidewater Community College, but her true passion was always medicine. Her body was donated to the Virginia State Anatomical Program to be used for medical research, as she always wished.
Joyce was predeceased by her first husband, James E. West Jr.; her second husband, Richard D. Carbone; her brother, Joseph H. Ellis Jr.; and her great-granddaughter, Jillian Harper Foster. She is survived by a daughter, Sharon West Foster (Bruce); two sons: Robert E. West (Robin) and Michael W. West (Robin); five grandchildren: Bridget F. Host (Finn), Jonathan B. Foster (Jackie), Victoria W. Liles (Wesley), Shannon N. West, and Cheyenne West; and five great-grandchildren: Sullivan, Jackson, Findlay, John Bradley and Aubrey Grace.
Her family was her pride and joy. They cherished their time with her and surrounded her with love until the very end. We will miss our Dear Mom, MaMaw, Grandma, Great MaMaw, but know we will all be together again as promised for Eternity in Heaven.
A private memorial service will be held in celebration of her life. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to PortsmouthHumaneSociety.org or a charity of your choice. Condolences may be registered at BWFosterFuneralHome.com.
