A Suffolk man died in a single-vehicle crash early Monday.

Suffolk Police and Suffolk Fire & Rescue units responded to the accident on Route 164 westbound at Bridge Road northbound near the Western Freeway.

The crash was reported at 1 a.m. Preliminary investigation determined that the passenger vehicle was traveling westbound when it went off the roadway and struck multiple trees before coming to rest a distance off the roadway in a wooded area. The driver was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The victim has been identified as Brandon Larelle Kelly, age 29, of Suffolk.

Crews from VDOT shut down I-664 southbound exit 9A, and Route 164/Bridge Road northbound had one lane of travel for a period of time.

The investigation remains ongoing.
