Suffolk Police are investigating a shooting in which an 8-year-old reportedly accidentally shot a 12-year-old.

The shooting happened in the 500 block of Kissimmee Avenue around 6:50 p.m. Tuesday, a city press release stated.

The preliminary investigation found that the 8-year-old male acquired an adult’s firearm from a residence and accidentally shot the 12-year-old male. Following medical assessment and treatment from Suffolk Fire & Rescue personnel, the child was taken to an area hospital with serious injuries that are believed to be non-life threatening.

The 8-year-old is currently being interviewed by Suffolk Police. The incident remains under investigation. No additional information is available for release.
