Hydrostructures, a contractor working on behalf of the Suffolk Department of Public Utilities, will be smoke testing the sanitary sewer system over the next five weeks within various areas of the city.
All areas scheduled to be smoke tested will be notified with door hangers that describe the upcoming smoke testing efforts.
Smoke testing involves injecting opaque-colored smoke through the sanitary sewer pipes to locate and identify deficiencies that may contribute to sanitary sewer overflows. The smoke used for smoke testing is non-toxic, harmless, and creates no hazard.
During the week of July 12, smoke testing is scheduled to be conducted in several areas including Kilby Shores, Cedar Lake Shores, Mill Creek Close and Lake Speight Colony.
During the week of July 19, smoke testing is scheduled to be conducted in several areas including Wilroy Industrial Park, Elephant’s Fork, Westhaven Lakes/Herons Pointe and Dayle Acres.
During the week of July 26, 2021, smoke testing is scheduled to be conducted in several areas including Godwin Commerce Park, Riverview, the area generally bounded by Fort Street, Western Avenue, and West Constance Road, Church Street area generally bounded by West Constance Road, Church Street, Mahan Street, and Day Street, Suffolk Executive Airport area generally bounded by Carolina Road, and Meadow Country Road, and King’s Fork Farm, King’s Fork Village, King’s Fork High School and King’s Fork Middle School.
