East Washington Street is closed in both directions in the 700 block due to an earlier two-vehicle accident.

Emergency Communications was contacted at 1:08 p.m. Monday advising of the accident involving a passenger vehicle and an SUV that left the roadway and struck a power pole, according to a city press release. Dominion Energy remains on scene making repairs to the affected power pole. Public Works crews have placed detour signs in the area.

Suffolk Fire & Rescue crews also responded and provided emergency medical assessment and treatment, and one person was ground transported to a local hospital for further treatment.

The cause of the accident remains under investigation at this time.
