James Edwin “Jimmy” Thompson, 76, of 279 Hazelton Road, Gates, N.C. died Saturday, Sept. 25, 2021, in his home where he was cared for by his family.

Mr. Thompson was born in Bladen County on May 20, 1945, and was the son of the late Oscar Edwin and Esther Mae Weeks Thompson. A retired self-employed carpenter, he had previously been a member of and worked through the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America Union.

Surviving is his wife of 56 years, Sadie Faulk Thompson; his daughter, Laurie Thompson Harris and husband, John, and their son, John Thompson “J.T.” Harris of Suffolk. Also surviving are two sisters, Patricia Williams and Judy Oberstadt and a brother, Keith Thompson, all of Newport News.

The family will gather to greet friends on Wednesday from 1 to 2 p.m. in Miller Funeral Home, 304 Main St., Gatesville, N.C. and then together process at 2:30 p.m. to Highland Memorial Gardens in Ahoskie for a graveside service.
