Fire marshals, police investigate ‘suspicious’ fire

An investigation is under way after a suspicious fire was reported Tuesday morning.
The fire was reported at 4:34 a.m. in the 300 block of South Main Street, according to a Suffolk Fire & Rescue press release. The first unit arrived on scene at 4:38 a.m.
Battalion 1, Engine 2, Engine 1, and Rescue 1 arrived to find no smoke or fire visible from the structure, the press release stated, but reported a disturbance on the front porch. Suffolk Police arrived with fire units and secured the scene.
Once firefighters investigated, several fires were discovered in the interior of the structure. The structure was ventilated and an investigation into the cause and origin of the fires was begun.
No residents were displaced by the fire. The fire has been ruled suspicious and is under investigation by the Fire Marshal’s Office and the Suffolk Police Department.
Responding units included Battalion 1; Engines 1, 2, 3; Ladders 3; Medic 1, Rescue 1, EMS-1, Safety 1, and Fire Marshal 4.
