“We wanted to make an event where people can be active and have fun,” said Amy Eichelberger, the golf tournament director for The LL12 Foundation.

The LL12 Foundation started in memory of Logan Koontz, who wore the number 12 football jersey for Tabb High School in Yorktown. Logan was 16 years old when he died as a passenger in a car accident with two other Tabb High School students on the way home from their homecoming dance in 2019.

The LL12 Foundation raises money for student-athletes in honor of Logan’s love for sports, including football, track, basketball, lacrosse, swimming and baseball. The foundation awards scholarships, camp fees, equipment and other requests as appropriate to students who apply. Despite being founded and based in Yorktown, the foundation wanted to extend its services to Hampton Roads.

“We want to make sure it’s known that these scholarships are not just for York County but for all of Hampton Roads,” said Eichelberger.

Despite the pandemic, in 2020, The LL12 Foundation awarded its first scholarship of $1,000, which provided new uniforms and equipment for Tabb High School’s football, lacrosse and basketball teams. The foundation also installed a sign near the accident site reminding folks to drive safely. It hopes to continue to support youth by increasing funds and including Hampton Roads’ athletes and ROTC cadets in honor of Logan.

The tournament is still open for golfers, vendors and sponsors to make the day a success. For more information, visit thell12foundation.com or email ll12golftournament@gmail.com.
