The Virginia State Police are investigating a head-on collision on Harbour View Boulevard at 3:50 p.m. Saturday that resulted in a fatality.
According to Virginia State Police Sgt. Michelle Anaya, a state trooper was on routine patrol on Interstate 664 when the trooper observed a 2004 Honda Accord with a possible violation. The trooper followed the vehicle as it exited at the College Drive ramp in an attempt to verify the violation, Anaya stated in an email.
The trooper then saw the male driver appear to pull into a housing development, then make an abrupt U-turn and accelerate down Harbour View Boulevard on the wrong side of the roadway, facing traffic.
The trooper was unable to initiate a traffic stop on the vehicle but followed and observed a two-car crash involving the Honda. The driver, Micheal Samuel Eure, 42, was traveling southbound in the northbound lanes when he struck a 2009 Lexus RX350 head-on. Eure was not wearing his seatbelt and died on impact.
The driver of the Lexus, Cherie Rene Savignac-McNeal, suffered serious injuries and was taken to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital.
Eure, from the 3700 block of King Street, Portsmouth, was wanted on three felony warrants out of Chesapeake and armed with a firearm at the time of the crash, Anaya stated. It is not known if he was under the influence of any drugs or alcohol.
